This research was conducted at the SHEFC Brain Imaging Research Centre for Scotland, which is supported with a Joint Research Equipment Initiative grant from the UK's Medical Research Council and the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council with industrial collaboration from GE Medical Systems, Boehringer Ingelheim, Novartis, and Schering.
The problem here is not increasing teaching loads as such, but the sense that they are only manageable (and university teaching is now an occupation with high stress levels) through the tight control of one's time -- by the ever more complicated teaching, examining and marking process, by the different and often contradictory demands for results from bureaucrats at all levels, departmental, faculty, university, SHEFC.
