Here, the important measure is the network distance, which renders the algorithms in the first group impractical for SNDB.
In this paper we propose a new algorithm for answering RCKNN in Spatial Network Database (SNDB) where the important measure for the shortest path is network distances rather than Euclidean distances.
We proposed in [16] a novel approach, termed PINE, to efficiently address KNN queries in SNDBs. The main idea behind this approach is to first partition a large network into smaller more manageable regions, then pre-compute distances across the regions.
In the future, completion of the trends database for the SNDB and redesign of the National Nutrient Data Bank should facilitate interpretation of changes in food-consumption patterns.
