It was first known as Journal of the Linguistic Association of the Southwest, then the title was changed to Southwest Journal of Linguistics (SWJL), and is currently published as International Journal of the Linguistic Association of the Southwest (IJLASSO).
At the 2008 conference in Oregon (Jenkins 2008), and again in 2009 in Provo (Jenkins 2009b), Jenkins (later published in SWJL as Jenkins 2009a) argued that non-border states like Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Washington, and Illinois needed to be included in the dialect of the Spanish of the Southwest.
