in Rome, which has acknowledged receipt.
The previous pope, Benedict XVI, the former Joseph Ratzinger, once headed Vatican's Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith
. He wrote in 2003 a document, entitled 'Considerations regarding proposals to give legal recognition to unions between homosexual persons,' which, in no uncertain terms, told all Catholic politicians that supporting a law legalizing gay marriage would be contrary to their faith.
