The Treasury is reducing the rates paid through Save As You Earn (SAYE) scheme bonuses by more than half in some cases.
Among those likely to face higher CGT charges are thousands of workers at bus and train operator Stagecoach Group, where a three-year SAYE Sharesave plan has generated average gains in the region of pounds 3,500 per person within a total payout worth pounds 15m, according to ifs ProShare, the voice of the employee share ownership industry.
Sir Terry Leahy's nice little earner was part of pounds 220m shared out among directors and staff through incentive bonuses and share schemes and nearly 150,000 staff shared pounds 169m through the company's profit share and SAYE scheme.
