As expected in many mammals, the close association of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria is involved in androgen synthetic pathways.

Additionally, the investigators claimed to find an association between Roundup exposure and increased cytochrome activity, between NK603 and reduced transcription rates, and between NK603 combined with Roundup and increased smooth endoplasmic reticulum. They wrote that mortality and tumorigenesis did not show a linear dose-response relationship with most treatments, but peaked at lower doses, suggesting the non-monotonic dose-response curve found with endocrine disruptors.
ER may have a group of ribosomes, much like buttons attached to a piece of cloth, in what is called rough endoplasmic reticulum; or it may consist of a membrane with ribosomes, in which case it is referred to as smooth endoplasmic reticulum. The ribosomes themselves appear as dark round dots on the endoplasmic reticulum at low magnifications, but as the magnification increases, it becomes apparent that they consist of two parts--a small spherical body and a large concave body.
