NNSA's FY2006 request stated that, for pit certification, "The major activities in FY2006 include the preparation and execution of subcritical experiments to confirm nuclear performance of the W88 warhead with a newly-manufactured pit.
In July 2012, NNSA stated that the next subcritical experiment is planned for fall 2012 or shortly thereafter.
8/30/06 -- The United States conducted its 23rd subcritical experiment, "Unicorn," at the Nevada Test Site.
