(A review by me of these, along with the NHT U1 subwoofer system, should be showing up soon in The Audiophile Voice).
Actually, you could purchase two TN1220HO models and the Optimizer, and after hooking them up to your spare, reasonably powerful stereo amp, you would have an absolutely killer, dual-module subwoofer system for $1100.
In my opinion the RABOS Kit is a tool that I would recommend to anyone truly serious about optimizing his subwoofer system. Symetrix 551E Parametric Equalizer www.symetrixaudio.com 1-425-787-3222 14926 35th Avenue West Lynnwood, WA 98037
These days, I am convinced that only two things can make significant improvements in the sound we get from even very good, traditional, two-channel audio systems: the addition of surround sound (meaning more speakers, more amplifiers, a good surround processor, and of course recordings that can take advantage of that configuration), and (assuming that the system owner does not already have two really huge, ultra-powerful speaker systems that deliver flat bass well into the bottom audible octave) the addition of a really potent subwoofer system.
I will not go over the full package, but the significant things are a pair of 350 wpc Carver M1.5t amplifiers to drive the four (yes, four) 901s in the main room, two Bose 901 equalizers, a Fosgate surround processor, a Carver C-1 preamp, a Richter Scale crossover for his subwoofer system (more on that below), a Carver C-500 amp to drive those subs, and a Sony CD player to provide most of the musical signals.
The audio package includes a dual 6.5-inch long-throw subwoofer system in a Mirage-specific moulded suspension-type enclosure.
A roll your own subwoofer system can peak 6 dB or more.).
The subwoofer systems range in price from $495 to $3,495 (U.S.
