This was helped considerably by Australia's Commonwealth government, state governments and a number of industry associations and individual businesses establishing and jointly-funding the
Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre (STCRC), whose mandate for its thirteen years of operation was to undertake research and deliver knowledge and tools to inform policy and planning to support sustainable tourism businesses and destinations (STCRC, 2012).
The Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre (STCRC) was first established under the Australian Government's Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) Program at the end of 1997, and refunded for a further seven-year term commencing July 2003.
