Through this partnership, TCUL member credit unions will have access to compliance news and information and PolicyWorks' compliance hotline, which provides member credit unions with answers via email or phone to their questions on regulatory requirements, policies and general compliance inquiries.
In addition to the PolicyWorks' compliance hotline, Robinson said TCUL was drawn to the ready access of a wide variety of user-friendly tools for its member credit unions, including compliance training, monthly e-newsletters, FAQs and periodic compliance bulletins that address current issues facing credit unions.
Braun's task to deploy access control across the business was complicated by TCUL's distributed structure.
In addition, many TCUL employees travel to individual credit unions, providing education, training, regulatory/ compliance assistance, research and new product development, and other services and programs.
TCUL also operates wireless networks in Dallas and Austin, providing a guest/ public network for Internet access and a private network for employees.
The first activity for the Texas 12 will be to crash TCUL's annual meeting April 18-20 in Galveston.
"The TCUL process appears that they expect the credit unions that 'sign on' want to immediately talk to other credit unions and be merged out," said David Bartoo, president of Portland, Ore.-based Merger Solutions Group.
But Michael Delker, TCUL vice president of credit union relations, maintained its merger service was designed not to be all encompassing or have a national range, but simply "to meet the need of our members."
Being able to provide small businesses with the capital they need to create jobs and lift up the nation's economy should supersede any turf banks are trying to guard, said TCUL Chief Advocacy Officer Buddy Gill.
"Specifically, TCUL worked to success fully remove a new provision that would allow for monetary penalties to be levied on credit unions, and worked to keep in place statutory language to continue allowing for joint 990 filings," Ensweiler noted of the IRS forms for nonprofits.
Gretchen Ziegler, executive director of TCUL PAC, noted that despite 2009 being a tough year, "credit union leaders have recognized the importance of continuing to raise the funds necessary to support credit union friendly candidates." And she added, "with primary elections just around the corner-March 2010-timing is critical since in Texas many elections are won and lost in the primaries."
