GM gets not only the chance to capture some of that business that otherwise would go to aftermarket parts makers, but through Tecstar the ability to do so more efficiently and cost-effectively than it could on its own.
Currently, Tecstar operates facilities near GM mink and SUV assembly plants in Louisiana, Texas, New Jersey and Ontario.
That's why the company announced in late October that it plans to acquire Wheel to Wheel and, as a result, the remaining half of the Tecstar joint venture.

Quantum reported total first-quarter revenue of $47.4 million, up from total revenue of $6.4 million for the first quarter of FY 05, an increase the company said results from the inclusion of Tecstar's operations, which contributed $43 million to consolidated revenues in the first quarter.
"Although we reported significant revenue growth during the first quarter due to the Tecstar acquisition, we did experience a shortfall in development program revenue," said Quantum president and CEO Alan Niedzwiecki.
