From the studied trace elements, only Fe demonstrated a significant positive correlation with the MDA level (r=0.666, p=0.018) and a negative significant correlation with the tGSH level (r=-0.689, p=0.013).
Our findings showed a significant positive correlation between the iron concentration in the samples and the lipid peroxidation, as well as a negative correlation between iron concentration and the tGSH level.
As shown in table (2), C[Cl.sub.4] intoxication significantly increased MDA and oxGSH formation, lowered serum levels of tGSH and rGSH, and lowered hepatic GR and serum PON1 activities; however, the intake of AGE in combination with C[Cl.sub.4] significantly lowered MDA formation, alleviated GSH depletion, and enhanced GR and PON1 activities (P< 0.01, as compared with C[Cl.sub.4]-treated group).
In the present study, the tGSH level was significantly higher in the RU and RF group compared to the GT.
Table 3 shows the changes in haemoglobin, haematocrit, plasma volume, GSSG, GSH and tGSH in whole blood and RBCs following the competition.
Measurements of total glutathione concentration (tGSH, GSH + GSSG), peroxidase activity (POD), photosynthesis and transpiration were made on plants exposed to different levels of mercuric chloride and salinity (as NaCl).
The hemoglobin (Hb) concentration was determined with a hemocytometer, and 100 [micro]L of the blood was immediately mixed with 12 [micro]L of 10 mmol/L phosphate buffer, pH 7.2 (for tGSH and GSH) or with 12 [micro]L of 0.1 mol/L N-ethylmaleimide (NEM; for GSSG).

The within-day imprecision (CV; n = 6) measured with a plasma pool was 2.2% for tCys, 1.7% for tCysGly, 1.9% for tHcy, and 7.2% for tGSH at concentrations of 178.0, 27.8, 7.9, and 3.4 [micro]mol/L, respectively.
