Given Italy was the year's Guest of Honor at TIBF in 2017, he noted that Iran is going to participate at Turin International Book Fair as guest of honor due to the suggestion of Italian embassy in Tehran.
Mohsen Javadi, director of the TIBF, said that China having been selected as the guest of honor served a major goal, which was "to revive the relations between China and Iran during the ancient Silk Road time through reading."
Since its launch in 1987, the TIBF has provided a good opportunity for Iranian readers to buy new books and helped promote the cultural exchanges between Iranian publishers and their foreign counterparts.
TIBF will also organize over 40 workshops on library and information science, Hosseini said.
"For the first time, TIBF allocated a section to electronic publishers and over 100 digital publishers are taking part in the event," Hosseini stated.
When Hosseini was asked about India's reluctance to attend the TIBF, he said that Iran asked India to be the guest of honor at this year's book fair, but the country gave no response to Iran's invitation.
Over 90 publishing companies have been invited to attend the TIBF's World Book Market, a section which has been established to boost cooperation between Iranian and foreign publishers.
Comments Philip Stephenson, Joint Managing Director of Davies Turner: "This year we quickly realised that we had to switch from our planned use of air cargo to road freight for the final deliveries of books and supporting materials to the TIBF as a result of the sudden airspace shutdown and closure of many airports in the UK and much of Northern Europe.
This year we broke last year's record for the TIBF, by moving 373.1 tonnes, almost 70 tonnes more this time."
Since the TIBF's founding, Davies Turner has handled the delivery of books and publications to the event on behalf of many British and international publishing companies appearing at the Fair.
The 27th edition of the TIBF will end work on May 10, 2014.
