Yassan (Yasushi Takahashi) was born in Saitama Prefecture, Japan and graduated from Tokyo University of Fine Arts
and Music .
He has done residencies at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and AIT in Tokyo as well as visiting lectureships at the London Metropolitan University and Tokyo University of Fine Arts
. His works have been exhibited at the Tate, Frieze Art Fair, IFA Berlin, The Courtauld, Sotheby's, Guangzhou Triennale, Singapore Biennale, Oslo Kunsthall and most recently, at The Queens Museum of Art, Shanghai Biennale and Sharjah Biennale.
A native of Mie Prefecture, Kondo studied painting at Tokyo Bijutsu Gakko (now Tokyo University of Fine Arts
and Music) and started teaching at a junior high school in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo.
It was at Reibaiin that a fellow boarder, sculptor Ryumon Yasuda, then a graduate of the Tokyo Bijutsu Gakko, one of predecessors to the Tokyo University of Fine Arts
and Music, made a drawing of Zhou in his sketchbook.
