The statement offered to make amends where this is possible, and committed the assembly to solidarity with the UAICC in the struggle to build a more caring and just community in the church and in the wider society.
The covenant is a covenant within the Uniting Church - between the rest of the church and the UAICC. It also expresses a commitment to solidarity with the wider Aboriginal community in its struggle against racist oppression, and for respect and a participation in the institutions of the society and the economy appropriate to their position as descendants of the original inhabitants and custodians of the land.
