According to joint doctrine, "efforts should be made to integrate UAUs
with manned flight operations to enable a more flexible and adaptable airspace structure." (38) Using the ROZ as a UAS airspace-control measure represents a step backwards towards independent and deconflicted operations, which lack the synergy that properly integrated airpower should bring to the joint fight.
The introduction of UAUs into the IAF and exploitation of civilian space technology also add significant punch to our capability and require careful integration into our intelligence framework.
Common sensor and communications programs in UAUs, manned aircraft, and even satellites are vital to mission effectiveness, along with a single processing, analysing, and disseminating agency such as the aerial common-sensor programme being adopted by the US armed forces.
