In the UEPH, the bedroom has a computer, stereo, television, and other smaller electronic devices for a plug load density of 1.7 W/[ft.sup.2] (18.3 W/[m.sup.2]).
The UEPH baseline HVAC system uses a DOAS (Dedicated Outdoor Air System) with condenser reheat.
For this study, solar hot water was deemed feasible for UEPH based on the 30 percent renewable energy requirement; energy savings were modeled for this building type.
For the UEPH, the Dormitory/Fraternity/Sorority category was chosen from the CBECS, because it was determined to be the closest match to the UEPH facility.
Each EEM or Low Energy Version is applied cumulatively to the baseline, starting with V1 (e.g., lighting load and electric power load density reduction for UEPH), then V2, V3, and finally V4.
Tables 9 and 10 list the baseline component energy for the UEPH by climate zone, and indicate that the mission (lights, plug loads, and hot water) make up from 50 to 86% of the load varying by climate zone.
Army has UEPH barracks at 26 installations in the United States and several in Europe, Japan, and Korea.
As stated in the Approach section, the Army decided to standardize the use the nonresidential ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2004 as the baseline for all barracks, even though the low-rise UEPH barracks used for this study might otherwise fall under the residential standard.
Optimization runs for wall and roof insulation levels and window types were carried out for five locations for the UEPH barracks.

This paper presents the results of developing target energy budgets and energy design guides for UEPH barracks.
The suggested sets of energy conservation technologies for UEPH barracks allowed for just under 30% energy savings in UEPH barracks in two of the climates zones; however, energy savings of 50% or greater were shown to be possible in 10 climate zones.
