Furthermore, in this study the cost of feed intake per pig decreased, respectively, by 12.53%,11.92%, 12.76%, 14.95% 14.95% and 8.38% in pigs fed UFCSR, NFCSR, MFCSR, UFCP, NFCP and MFCP-based diets relative to those fed the control diet.

(For supplementary measurements, we used 0.5 and 2 [micro]g ufCP.) The suspension of poorly soluble particles was sonicated on ice for 1 min prior to instillation, using a SonoPlus HD70 (Bachofer, Berlin, Germany) at a moderate energy of 20 W.
Only SootL and ufCP at 50 lag significantly elevated total protein levels > 300 [micro]g/mL, compared with a level of about 200 [micro]g/mL in control and water-instilled animals (data not shown).
At the lowest dose (5 [micro]g/mouse), only SootL and ufCP caused significant accumulation of neutrophils in BALF.
Comparable with the conditions for PMN influx, the instillation of water did not alter cytokine concentrations in BALF, and the instillation of ufCP particles generated the highest cytokine levels at each dose.
(2005) demonstrated a high oxidative potential for ufCP compared with Printex90 or DEP (SRM1650a).
Furthermore, the instillation of 16 [cm.sup.2] (2 [micro]g) UfCP particles did not cause a significant inflammatory response, whereas 40 [cm.sup.2] (5 [micro]g) was effective.
