According to the report, entitled '25 by 25: a ten-year strategy to improve lung cancer survival rates', nearly two-thirds (65%) of healthcare professionals who responded to a UKLCC survey believe early-stage diagnosis to be the most important factor for improving five-year survival rates.

According to the UKLCC's report, called "Ten years on in lung cancer: the changing landscape of the UK's biggest cancer killer", Wales has the secondworst lung five-year survival rate for lung cancer in Europe.
The UKLCC is now pressing policy makers to ensure that lung cancer continues to be highlighted in future cancer strategies.
Dr Mick Peake, chairman of the UKLCC's clinical advisory group, said: "There are only 44 fulltime equivalent specialist thoracic surgeons spread thinly over 240 multidisciplinary cancer teams across the country and many teams lack core members.
