In addition to this, the White House is occupied again by a very conservative Republican administration which initiated the USAPATRIOT
Act 2001 (an acronym for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism) within weeks of 11 September 2001.
In September, a federal court declared provisions of the USAPATRIOT
Act's National Security Letter (NSL) procedures unconstitutional.
Act added a new section ([section] 236A) to the INA which provides for the mandatory pre-removal-order detention of an alien who is certified by the Attorney General as a terrorist suspect.
In one of many sessions related to the USAPATRIOT
Act and National Security Letters, speaker Alonzo Robertson, legislative attorney at the National Security Agency (NSA), was actively engaged with his audience, including this animated discussion with Arthur Kirschenbaum, from Sno-Isle Libraries in Marysville, Wash., after the meeting ended.
