Cuadrado-Soto et al., "Estimation of salt intake assessed by urinary excretion of sodium over 24 h in Spanish subjects aged 7-11 years," European Journal of Nutrition, vol.
(2007) which showed that the urinary excretion of sodium, potassium, and chloride ions and urine flow rate decreased in rats treated with growth hormone.
This is supported by the observation that parathyroid hormone (PTH) reduces urinary excretion of calcium while enhancing urinary excretion of sodium. In addition, thiazide diuretics, acting in the early portion of the distal tubule induce a natriuresis, but cause urinary retention of calcium when administered on a chronic basis.
