on the hour from noon to 2 Tuesdays and 10 to noon Saturdays.
A professor encouraged him to integrate his love of history into the profession of architecture by joining the board at the Utah Heritage Foundation
. Later, as president of the foundation, he created the Preservation Development Strategy, jointly funded by the city, private money and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, to identify the important historic resources downtown and their development opportunity.
A dozen elegant, turn-of-the-century structures in Salt Lake City open for inspection May 17 and 18, when the Utah Heritage Foundation
sponsors its 15th annual house tour.
"Preserving historic architecture is important because it tells us a lot about our culture," said Mike Leventhal, director of the Utah Heritage Foundation
. "Historic buildings provide us with a sense of continuity--a reference point that shows us where we have been and where we are going." Leventhal cites the City-County Building as an example of an edifice that continues to have meaning to the inhabitants of Salt Lake City.
