During his tenure as an advisor at the New Mexico VBOC, Peterson took the Boots to Business (B2B) class.
VBOC business counselors also work closely with SBA resource partners --Small Business Development Centers, SCORE, Women's Business Centers, and other organizations, such as IFA's VetFran--to guide clients through assessing their entrepreneurial needs and requirements.
After connecting with the New Mexico VBOC, Peterson also developed relationships with his local SBDC, SCORE chapter, SBA District Office, and the Procurement Technical Assistance Program.
In addition to transitioning service members and veteran small business owners, VBOCs also serve other members of the military entrepreneurship community, including active duty service members, veterans of all eras, National Guard and Reserve component members, and military spouses who aspire to be or are existing business owners.

The grant, offered by SBAs Office of Veteran Business Development, enables each VBOC to provide entrepreneurial training, comprehensive business assessment, and mentoring to active duty service members, veterans and service-disabled veterans, National Guard and Reservists, and military spouses interested in starting a small business.
The VBOC grant funding competition was open to eligible institutions of higher learning, private organizations or businesses, non-profit community-based organizations, state, local or tribal governmental agencies and non-profit organizations.
The SBA is excited to welcome the Arsenal Business & Technology Partnership to the VBOC network, said Barbara Carson, Associate Administrator, SBA Office of Veterans Business Development.
The VBOC for Region IV (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee) also boasts its own Web site, www.vboc.org.

States and regions were selected as potential VBOC sites based on Boots to Business program demand, military installation, and transitioning population data.
