In Ayasanda CBFM forest, which was very degraded in 1994 when it became a VLFR, harvesting intensity has increased, from zero to 0.26 [m.sup.3][ha.sup.-1][yr.sup.-1] over the period 3-10 years ago to 2.77 [m.sup.3][ha.sup.-1][yr.sup.-1] over the past 1-2 years, but the standing volume above 20 cm dbh remains high.
