One possible way to support this architecture is to use wireless ATM, meaning every wireless network must allow the transmission of ATM cells with additional headers (or WATM
cells) requiring changes in the wireless networks.
In order to achieve this, a new addressing model, "gateway model" [20, 21], is proposed, instead of the classical IP model, WATM subnet model, and peer model , described in the next section.
Several addressing models - classical IP, WATM subnet, and peer models - have been proposed to realize the IP protocol, in particular, over ATM (IP-over-ATM).
That is, this model can solve two problems that are drawbacks for the WATM subnet model.
