As an ophthalmologist, she was trained at St Thomas' Hospital in London, and while on rotation there, met a Past Master of the WCSM
, vitreo-retinal surgeon Anthony Chignell, who recommended that she join the livery company.

award ceremony will be held on September 14 at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, where successful candidates will be presented with their certificates by Michael Barton, the master of the WCSM
By passing the examination and achieving the WCSM
Certificate in Optical Care, candidates will also gain transferable educational credits which they may use to gain entry to courses leading to even higher qualifications.
