Among his many accomplishments, Professor Singer served for five decades as Editor-in-Chief of the WVUPP. In 1976, at the suggestion of the Department Chair, Robert Elkins, Professor Singer undertook to establish a yearly Colloquium at WVU on literature and film, and shortly thereafter, the Philological Papers began printing selected papers from the annual event with issues reflecting the theme of each year's colloquium.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Angel Tuninetti, Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages, who has been a generous and enthusiastic supporter of the Colloquium and the WVUPP. I would also like to express my sincere appreciation for the editorial assistance and technical skills of Lindsey Erin Hakim-Ilahi, whose efforts have been invaluable in the production of this volume.
