"We turned to Level 3 for its cost-efficient, reliable IP services that will continue to allow us to grow and scale WiscNet," said Mike Schlicht of the University of Wisconsin System.
WiscNet is a non-profit, membership-based association of public and private organizations that provides access to worldwide information and computing resources with primary emphasis on education, research, and public service.
Under the terms of the agreement, the provider of fibre-based communications services will increase the capacity it delivers to WiscNet from 1Gb/s to 10Gb/s.
The increase in capacity will enable further information and resource sharing among education organisations, WiscNet said.
What is unusual about WiscNet is that it provides a free toolkit to its members in an effort to help demystify how the Internet works and provide more efficient technical support.
