Titled "Payback," the exhibition emphasizes the historical significance of the yMEc blocks, which were built in the 1960s, as a very significant example of Turkish modernist architecture.
The object that principally works like a die has six different surfaces with the words "Put one," "Take two," "Put two," "Take one," "Everybody puts one" and "Take all." The artist chose to produce this object from concrete to both refer to the constant state of construction in ystanbul and also as a criticism of the architecture of the yMEc blocks.
Stores are closing down in Laleli, while Syrian businessmen are taking over failing shops in the
yMEc, a testament to the decline in Russian and Ukrainian customers due to the political and economic crises in those countries.
