In terms of the DNA methylation status of different TGCT types, seminoma cases have very low DNA methylation levels, whereas nonseminomatous teratomas, yolk sac tumors, and choriocarcinomas show hypermethylation due to overexpression of DNA methyltransferases (DNMT) (4).
Histopathologically, yolk sac tumor was found in one of these patients and teratoma was found in the other (9).
The pathology of the CT-guided biopsy for the peritoneal tumors revealed an extragonadal germ cell tumour (GCT), including yolk sac tumor and choriocarcinoma.
It is listed among the germ cell tumors, together with germinoma, embryonic carcinoma, yolk sac tumor, endodermal sinus tumor, choriocarcinoma and mixed germ cells tumors [8].
(7) Other tumor markers are used in the diagnosis of other types of ovarian tumors that are malignant like LDH for dysgerminoma, AFP for yolk sac tumor and CA 19-9 for other intra-abdominal tumors like pancreas and colon.
Pathology was consistent with a nasopharyngeal pure yolk sac tumor (YST).
(10) As reported in prepubertal testis tumor registry, yolk sac tumor is most frequent type of testis tumor in children.
Yolk sac tumor, embryonal carcinoma, choriocarcinoma, and combined nonteratomatous germ cell tumors of the mediastinum--a clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical study of 64 cases.
A pathology examination revealed that the tumor consisted of a combined malignant germ cell tumor (yolk sac tumor plus embryonal carcinoma plus dysgerminoma) with a focal rhabdomyosarcoma component arising from a mature cystic teratoma of the mediastinum (size, 8 x 8 x 4.8 cm).
