For example, streptozotocin--(STZ-) induced diabetic rats exhibit a blunted circadian rhythm of locomotor activity with a normal phase entrainment [9], whereas Zucker obese rats, an animal model of type 2 DM (T2DM), exhibit a phase advance and blunted amplitude of locomotor activity [10].
For example, Zucker obese rats, an animal model for T2DM with mutations in the leptin receptor, exhibit a phase advance and a decreased amplitude of activity and body temperature [10].

Data presented here shows for the first time that Rapamycin modulates several intracardiac proteins differentially in healthy Zucker lean rats and diabetic Zucker obese rats. Our expectation was that since Rapamycin is an immunosuppressant, it would suppress inflammatory cytokines in the heart of both lean and obese rats to improve their cardiac function.

This investigation was carried out in two animal models of colon cancer, one that is sporadic (Sprague-Dawley rats) and one that is associated with obesity (Zucker obese rats); both are induced with AOM (Corpet and Tache, 2002; Raju and Bird, 2003).
for the first time revealed that long time treatment with rapamycin modulates several intracardiac proteins differentially in healthy Zucker lean rats and diabetic Zucker obese rats. They showed that rapamycin treatment causes an increase in cardiac fibrosis in healthy Zucker lean rats, whereas rapamycin suppresses cardiac fibrosis in Zucker obese rats by differentially regulating the phosphorylation of AKT and antifibrotic cytokines in healthy and obese rats.
