We are working to make useroperated level crossings safer with new technology, but the majority of these incidents are occurring at automated level crossings in built-up areas where there is ample warning they are coming into operation.
The new hi-tech safety enforcement cameras are aimed at catching out drivers who ignore red lights at level crossings in Merseyside, as well as Lancashire.
However, the ECoR has initiated immediate steps for a large-scale audit of all level crossings in its jurisdictions.
They said the investigation would look into the action of those involved, the rules and guidance for signallers, the information provided to users of private level crossings, the management of safety risk at the crossing and other management factors.
Nathan Lewis, British Transport Police PCSO responsible for Anglesey, said: "Level crossings are commonplace on our roads and are there to keep people safe.
This warning comes as a quarter of UK adults admit they don't know the guidance around how to use a level crossing safely, and young people are even more clueless, with more than a third of 16 -- 24 year olds feeling they are unaware.
He said the funds of Rs 103.928 million have been received for upgradation of 10 level crossings in the first phase.
"We are investing more than PS100m to improve level crossing safety across Britain as part of the railway upgrade plan, but we also need everyone who uses level crossings to do their bit too.
The incident happened on Wednesday, April 19, at around 9.15pm at the Tal-Y-Cafn level crossing in the village of Eglwysbach, Conwy.
There is no excuse for jumping the lights at a level crossing and the consequences of doing so could be fatal.
In another incident, Paul Oliver and Allan Thain, both 17, were killed after the car they were in drove over an automatic level crossing and ploughed into a train near Invergordon in 2007.
