mumps vaccine need consideration," the authors write.
Glatter explained that
mumps can become a very serious illness.
Most cases of
mumps are mild - around a third of people infected with the virus develop no symptoms - but when complications occur they can be serious.
In
mumps, one or both of the parotid salivary glands, located just below and in front of the ears, swell up and become painful.
A spokesman for NHS England in the South East said there remains a "high risk" of an increase in
mumps and measles infections if children have not been vaccinated.
Suspected cases of
mumps have been linked to university students who may not have been vaccinated in the nineties
Professor Nick Harding, chairman of NHS Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG, said: "Measles and
mumps are currently circulating in England and Europe, particularly those who are unvaccinated and most at risk.
The agency said it has confirmed 334
mumps cases since September.
The first confirmed case of
mumps among ICE detainees was reported on September 7, 2018 and since then the figure has grown to 334, the official added.

Mumps is a contagious illness which causes the parotid glands - either side of the mouth and in front of both ears - to become swollen.
In addition, the number of people who refused vaccination is increasing annually, consequently leading to activation of
mumps incidence.
