Conventional hemangiopericytoma: Modern analysis of outcome.
Phase II study of subcutaneous octreotide in adults with recurrent or progressive meningioma and meningeal hemangiopericytoma. Neuro-Oncol.
5 patients were of Brain Tumour, with a median age of 21 years, with histopathology of Medulloblastoma, Hemangiopericytoma and Astrocytoma Grade II (2 patients).
The vascularity can be so striking that a hemangiopericytoma is occasionally mimicked (Figure 2, E).
Differential diagnosis for extra-axial dural based mass lesions includes metastatic disease, hemangiopericytoma, lymphoma, solitary fibrous tumor, and Rosai-Dorfman Disease, among others.

Tumors or conditions rated as intermediate include inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMT) [297-300], a solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) [301], desmoid fibromatoses [302, 303], a hemangiopericytoma [304], and a Castleman's disease [305], while benign tumors and conditions include dermoid cysts [301, 306], teratomas [307, 308], leiomyomas [309, 310], (fibrous) hamartomas [311, 312], a hemangioma [313], a fibroadenoma [314], malakoplakia [315], abscesses [316-318], a xanthogranulomatous urachitis [319], a urachal tuberculosis [320], actinomycosis [321-323], an endometriosis [324], a perforated colonic diverticulitis [325], and even a fishbone within an urachal cyst [326].
Vascular malformations include slow-flow malformations (with venous, capillary and/or lymphatic components) and fast-flow malformations (with arterial components); while vascular neoplasms undergo mitosis and include such lesions as infantile hemangioma, congenital hemangioma, kaposiform hemangioendothelioma, tufted angioma, hemangiopericytoma, and angiosarcoma [2].
Differential diagnoses include papillary renal cell carcinoma, glomus tumor, hemangiopericytoma, collecting duct carcinoma, urothelial carcinoma, renal epithelioid angiomyolipoma, and Wilms tumor.
A hemangiopericytoma-like area of vascular malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour may be misdiagnosed as hemangiopericytoma. Most of the time, cases of soft tissue sarcoma require further evaluation using special stains and immuno-histochemical stains.
