Neurogenic pulmonary edema (NPE) is a condition commonly associated with serious central nervous system (CNS) insults such as head injury and intracranial hemorrhage, but it also can occur with a variety of intracranial pathologies, including uncontrolled generalized seizures, tumor, hydrocephalus, and neurosurgical procedures.[5,9] In contrast to other forms of pulmonary edema, NPE occurs in the absence of underlying heart or lung dysfunction.[8] Its pathogenesis is not completely understood.
